Europa Universalis III May Pics
SCREENSHOTS FEATURE posted on 2 MAY 2006 by Chris Abele
Four new pictures and a designer update on the game's progress.
Paradox Interactive released this weekend a set of three new screenshots from Europa Universalis III (announcement), their latest Middle Ages grand strategy game that's currently in development at the home offices in Sweden. The three new screenshots show off the game's new 3D settings and game map as well as some of the interface elements planned for this latest installment which follows Europa Universalis I (review) and our Award for Excellence winner, Europa Universalis II (review).
In addition to the new screenshots, Paradox also offered dedicated fans an update on their progressing design work:
This last week, we have been working on finalising the siegecombat, which should be more obvious to the player than the siege in EU1 and Eu2 was. We also worked on implementing blockades and revolts. The interface team have been busy with adding the interface to our diplomatic model and will be working on that for a while longer. The artists have been busy finalising the western city view, and making uniforms and models for our eastern and muslim units. This week betatesting will start, and all betas who have sent in their NDA’s will get their hands on the game. Today a new person started on the team, a former moderator and longtime betatester, King, was hired as a QA person for us, and is now working inhouse making sure that EU3 will be as close to perfection as possible.Europa Universalis III is not expected to be released until early 2007.
We have kept the concept of using graphics to depict the cities as in the previous incarnations in the series. Of course there will be different styles of artwork for different types of cultures, just as in EU2. What you can see here, is a well developed Edinburgh, with several buildings built in 1614, like a cathedral, marketplace and a courthouse. We’ve also changed so that you can see details on the province directly when you have selected it.
